Harris County s budget director suggests another a tax hike could help make up a possible $1.4 billion in shortfall in voter-approved flood mitigation projects after Harvey. But former Judge Ed Emmett, who helped get the measure passed, says it was the county who dropped the ball after he left.
“It was a shame that the county couldn t get their act together enough to help homeowners,” he says. “They re talking about flood control projects now, but you ve got a lot of homeowners who never have been reimbursed for their damage from Harvey and we re going on four years.”

The Maricopa Flood Control District is working with City officials to prevent erosion in the city washes caused by residents.
An ordinance banning the release of water pool backwashing, specifically onto the banks of the washes is proposed. As more and more residents drain their pools into the wash, the district is having to foot the repair bill.

Two flood-control projects in the city of Jersey Village are moving forward after city council members unanimously approved two contracts at a Feb. 22 meeting.
The projects which have been part of city plans since the city adopted a long-range flood plan in 2017 include a four-foot earthen barrier that will be built around the Jersey Meadow Golf Course at a cost of $1.3 million and a series of drainage improvements on some of the city s most flood prone streets Wall, Crawford, Carlsbad and Tahoe streets as well as Capri Drive at the cost of $5.7 million. The city is contracting with SER Construction Partners on the drainage project and with Greenscapes Six LLC on the golf course project.
