RAPID CITY, S.D. Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender is in Washington D.C. on Tuesday at the invitation of President Joe Biden to discuss crime and community-based violence intervention programs. He will be joining a small number of other mayors, community and law enforcement officers in this round table discussion on Wednesday.
“This is a great opportunity for the sharing of ideas and to present to President Biden and other officials from around the country our approaches to addressing crime through community-based violence intervention programs,” said Mayor Allender. “The White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs heard about Rapid City and our unique approach to these issues.”

(WASHINGTON) The White House will host a celebratory gathering on the Fourth of July to mark the country’s effective return to normalcy after 16 months since the coronavirus pandemic began, The Associated Press reported Tuesday.
The Independence Day holiday will be the largest event since Biden’s presidency, and more than 1,000 guests are expected to attend the gathering on the South Lawn. First responders, essential workers, military service members and their families will be invited for a cookout and to watch the fireworks over the National Mall.
“America is headed into a summer dramatically different from last year. A summer of freedom. A summer of joy. A summer of reunions and celebrations,” the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs said in an email, per The New York Times.
