Feb 11, 2021 WESTFIELD – Richard L. “Rick” Abbey, 56, of Hardscrabble Rd. Westfield, NY, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021 at home following a brief illness. Rick was born November 21, 1964 in Westfield Memorial Hospital the son of Dale L. Abbey and the late Sally D. (Toy) Abbey. He was a graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School Class of 1983. Following graduation, Rick specialized in computer building and repair. Most recently, he had been employed at the Chautauqua Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility in Dunkirk, NY in their facility operations department. In his spare time, Rick enjoyed hunting and working on cars. He also was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

WESTFIELD Slowly, but surely Westfield-area residents and front-liners are receiving vaccinations. Westfield Memorial Hospital said Tuesday it is planning to hold several COVID-19 vaccine clinics this week and next week. Clinics are held from 1 to 3 p.m. To date, the hospital has vaccinated approximately 260 local health-care workers and seniors over 65. The clinic was scheduled as a result of the hospital receiving 200 additional first doses of vaccine, according to hospital President Karen Surkala. Future clinics, utilizing additional doses of vaccine, are scheduled for Tuesday and Feb. 17. To schedule, qualified patients should check AHN.org, where Westfield Memorial Hospital will be providing a scheduling link for individuals to sign up later this week. Those without Internet can sign up by calling 793-2200.

Ohio Man Dies In Logging Accident | News, Sports, Jobs

RIPLEY An Ohio man was killed in a logging accident in Ripley. Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a logging accident at 9:21 a.m. Saturday on Klondike Road in Ripley to help local volunteer firefighters. David Byler, 46, of Middlefield, Ohio, was about a half of a mile back in a wooded area cutting trees and, while doing so, had a tree fall on him. Ripley and South Ripley firefighters responded along with Chautauqua County EMS. Byler was taken to Westfield Memorial Hospital and airlifted to UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa. Byler died on Sunday.
