PM says route out of UK lockdown will be cautious and phased to protect all
Ahead of Monday s planned announcement on a cautious reopening of the economy from the novel coronavirus lockdown, Britain s Prime Minister Boris Johnson pledged that all adults in the country would be offered a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of July.
In a statement, Johnson said that he wants the rollout program to go further and faster . He added that the July target would allow vulnerable people to be protected sooner and that this would help to further ease restrictions across the United Kingdom.
The first real-world data examining the impact of vaccines suggests the Oxford and Pfizer jabs cut two thirds of infections and transmissions.
The data, which supports Britain s policy of widening the time between doses, will show one shot of either of the vaccines will have that effect on people of all ages.
Boris Johnson is expected to hear evidence on the impact of jabs on transmission, infection, hospital admissions and deaths by the end of Friday.
This will be ahead of the PM s highly-anticipated roadmap out of England s lockdown on Monday.
It comes as it was revealed Britons as young as 40 could be offered a jab within a few weeks.
This week 1.7 million more people have been added to the government’s Covid-19 shielding list in England because of a new algorithm that factored in people’s socioeconomic conditions and underlying health problems for the first time.
