An 83-year-old Asian American woman was spat on and punched in the face in an unprovoked attack.
White Plains police arrested a man on charges of second-degree assault on a person 65 or older.
The woman said she was collecting bottles and cans when the assailant approached her.
New York authorities said an 83-year-old Korean American woman was brutally assaulted as she collected bottles and cans, the latest in a stream of violent attacks against Asian Americans across the country.
Police in White Plains, New York, arrested 40-year-old Glenmore Nembhard on March 11, alleging he spat on the elderly woman and punched her in the face, knocking her unconscious in an unprovoked attack outside the Westchester Mall in White Plains.

The assault of an 83-year-old Korean woman in White Plains is under investigation by the Westchester District Attorney s Office.
Police say Nancy Toh was at the intersection of Westchester Avenue and Bloomingdale Road Tuesday evening when a homeless man named Glenmore Nembhard suddenly attacked her.
Police say he spit on Toh and punched her in the face, causing her to fall and hit her head on the ground. The impact apparently caused her to blackout. When she regained her senses, he was gone.

White Plains police arrested 40-year-old Glenmore Nembherd, in the attack on March 9 of 83 year old Nancy Toh outside of Nortstrom’s in White Plains.
The unprovoked attack by Nemherd, who is homeless, had Toh punched in the face and spat on by the assailant. While Westchester DA Mimi Rocah’s office is investigating whether the crime was bias related, White Plains police stated that they have no evidence that Toh is an Asian-American played any role in the attack.
“The Westchester District Attorney’s Office has assigned Assistant District Attorneys focusing on hate crimes and elder abuse to investigate this matter. Attacks like this one impact all of us. They create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation that keeps us from feeling safe and secure in our homes and communities. I urge everyone to report all hate crimes and bias incidents, even if you are not the victim, so that law enforcement can track and work to prevent these terrible acts,” stated DA Rocah.
