(Jan. 27, 2021) Updated Feb 01, 2021; A pair of New Jersey-based theater companies will be debuting online productions over the next week spotlighting important women in history: ♦ East Lynne Theater Company will present Stephanie Garrett reading “Lynching, Our National Crime,” a speech Ida B. Wells delivered at the National Negro Conference (forerunner to the NAACP) in New York City in the spring of 1909. The prerecorded performance will premiere 8 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 28, on ELTC’s YouTube channel and be available for viewing through Feb. 28. Wells’ work began in the early 1890s, and by 1909, she was the most prominent anti-lynching campaigner in the United States. She died in 1931 and received a posthumous Pulitzer Prize in 2020 for her reporting.

Senior Resource Center to expand to two Princeton locations, but long-term future of Suzanne Patterson building unclear -

January 26, 2021 The main space at the Suzanne Patterson Center is used for exercise classes and large gatherings. The Princeton Senior Resource Center has had to rent space from other organizations in recent years to accommodate its growing programs. To solve the capacity issue, the organization has purchased a 12,000-square-foot office building at 101 Poor Farm Road that will become the site of the organization’s administrative offices and many other activities such as classes. The office move will free up space at the Suzanne Patterson Center building. Senior center leaders hope to reconfigure the space for classrooms and make some other renovations at the building, which is owned by the municipality. But town officials have not yet decided what to do with the property on Stockton Street that also includes the former Princeton Borough Hall, now called Monument Hall. On Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021, the Ridgewood-based First Flight Theatre Company will bring him back to life with a virtual performance of “Salvador,” the Rick Young short play imagining the waning years of the eccentric Spanish artist’s life. The production will be performed live online 7 p.m. Sunday, then be available for on-demand viewing through 11 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27. A benefit performance for The Actors Fund, donations start at $10. The play follows Dali as he sits in the plaza in front of the Teatro-Museo Dalí in Figueres, Spain, greeting guests as they arrive from all over the world to take a look at his collection and reminiscing about his art, life, loves and losses. (Jan. 13, 2021) Updated Jan 13, 2021; ♦ The Theater Project is seeking entries for its 19th annual Young Playwrights Competition and, to serve as an incentive of sorts, the Union-based professional theater company will re-stream four of last year’s winning plays online 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday. The contest is open to New Jersey high school-aged residents. Deadline to enter the 2021 competition is Jan. 22. Guidelines can be found at thetheaterproject.org. Winners receive cash prizes and will have their work performed by professional actors at a Zoom awards ceremony in the spring.

This year, so is Dreamcatcher. The professional repertory theater ensemble based out of the Oakes Center in Summit is in the process of finalizing its new online season, starting with “In With the New,” an online fundraiser gala scheduled for live streaming 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10. The live event will feature performances and an interactive trivia game. Admission to the gala is $100, which includes a souvenir stemless wine glass filled with cookies delivered to each attendee’s home. (Additional glasses can be ordered for $10.)
