A WELL-known garden on the edge of Ilkley Moor is to open to the public again under the NGS ‘Open Garden’ scheme, after a short break. The part-woodland garden of Lyn and Phil Short, at 5 Hill Top, Westwood Drive, Ilkley, will open its gates to visitors on Wednesday, May 26 and Sunday, May 30, from 11am to 4pm on both days. Admission is £4, with children under 11 free. Refreshments will be available and a plant stall. Payments can be made electronically or by cash. All proceeds will go to NGS charities, which include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie and Hospice UK. Last year, the National Garden Scheme donated £2.88 million, despite the pandemic. The owners ask visitors to act with common-sense and park considerately. Over the years this garden has contributed almost £14,000 to the charities, thanks to visitors’ generosity and the owners hope to add further to this amount in 2021. The garden features a stream, bridges and a summerhouse with views over Ilkley.
