Sheriff Randy Meeks announced Friday morning that his office conducted several investigations at multiple locations during December after receiving tips of illegal gambling within the county.

A retirement party is scheduled for Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks between 2-4 p.m.Thursday at the sheriffâs office, 2801 Stuart St. in Greenville. Organizers have planned a come and go event, but social distancing and face masks will be required.
Terry Jones won the Republican Party nomination for sheriff in March and was unopposed in seeking the office in November. Jones is scheduled to be sworn-in as the next sheriff on Jan. 1.

The trial started Monday for a Campbell man on multiple indictments alleging he led law enforcement on a high-speed chase before shooting at officers in November of last year.
But after the trial before 196th District Court Judge Andrew Bench began, Dayton Blane Green, 20, chose to enter open pleas of guilty to the three separate charges. An open plea means no plea bargain agreement has been arranged in the case and that Green was subject to the full range of punishment.
