FREE and fast Covid-19 tests are now available in Keighley to people without symptoms of the virus. The tests are being provided in the Airedale Shopping Centre, in a joint initiative between Bradford Council’s Covid Response Hub and the Department for Health and Social Care. Opening hours for the testing centre are 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday and 11.15am to 3pm on Sundays. It is closed from Christmas Eve until December 28 and on New Year’s Day. People don’t need to book an appointment, but any queues will be managed for safety and social distancing purposes. Around one in three people with the virus have no symptoms so could be unknowingly spreading it.
Picture: Bradford Covid Response Hub It s a world away from when audiences would pack into the theatre to watch a show and its repurposing in the fight against the pandemic is a stark reminder of the new normal . Both St George s Hall and the Airedale Shopping Centre in Keighley are being used for the rapid lateral flow tests, which give results in 30 minutes and are used to help identify people without symptoms who have Covid-19. Roughly one in three people with the virus have no symptoms and so could be spreading the disease without knowing it. Broadening testing to identify those showing no symptoms will mean finding positive cases more quickly, and so break the chains of transmission.
ONE of Bradford’s most prominent buildings has been turned into a rapid Covid-19 testing site. St George’s Hall, in the heart of the city centre, is being used for the new testing programme, along with Airedale Shopping Centre in Keighley. Lateral Flow tests, which give results in 30 minutes, will be used in a bid to identify asymptomatic people who have Covid-19.
