AN Ilkley man who set out to run 10k a day in May in aid of charity has raised more than five times his original target. Michael Pidd was hoping to raise £310 for Hope for Tomorrow - but he has reached £1,700 after completing his challenge. He decided to embark on the daily runs to mark the second anniversary since his partner, Amy, lost her dad, Philip Baxter, to cancer. Philip was well known in Ilkley having worked at numerous restaurants and hotels in the area, including the Cow and Calf and the tennis club. Michael said: “Hope for Tomorrow are a dedicated charity bringing cancer care closer to patients’ homes via their Mobile Cancer Care Units (MCCUs). Working in a unique partnership with the NHS, they have 10 MCCUs operational nationwide including at Airedale General Hospital.”
By Keighley & Ilkley MP Robbie Moore TUESDAY (June 1) marks the start of Volunteers’ Week, a week where the nation gets together to celebrate the wonder of volunteering which so many people up and down the UK do day in day out – out of the goodness of their hearts. This year’s celebrations will be more compelling than ever after we have seen a nation get together and volunteering numbers explode during the Covid pandemic. Since being elected as your MP I have had the pleasure of meeting many fantastic volunteer groups up and down the Keighley and Ilkley constituency, from the Aire Valley Against Incineration campaign group to Keighley Dementia Friendly which were both among my first official meetings as your MP.

A MAN who died in Keighley earlier this month was stabbed, an inquest hearing was told yesterday. Assistant Coroner Raja Mahmood opened the inquest into the death of 49-year-old George Charles Thomas Dore at Bradford Coroners’ Court. Police were called to a property on Fell Lane on Thursday, April 8, where Mr Dore was found with a serious injury. He was taken to Airedale General Hospital, but died a short time later. The brief hearing, held virtually due to Covid-19 restrictions, heard Mr Dore was at his home address with his girlfriend and lodger. At around 3.40am, three people turned up at the address and an altercation took place, resulting in Mr Dore being stabbed.
