DETROIT - Saeedeh Elahi, 41, of Livonia, is charged with felony larceny in a building after allegedly stealing two COVID-19 vaccine doses and two vaccination cards.
Around 1:50 p.m. on Monday, March 15, Detroit Police officers responded to the third floor of the TFC Center for a reported larceny. Elahi is accused of placing two syringes filled with the Moderna vaccine and two vaccination cards in her pocket.
“There is simply no excuse for this alleged conduct,” said Wayne County Prosecutor Kim Worthy. “This case should send a loud and clear message that this conduct is criminal and will be taken seriously.”
Detroit City Councilman Gabe Leland was arraigned Tuesday on a felony charge of misconduct in office just days after declaring he won’t seek a third term.
Leland, who represents Detroit s District 7, appeared briefly in 36th District Court via livestream on the count leveled against him last summer on claims he accepted $7,500 in cash for his 2017 reelection campaign and free car repairs in exchange for his vote on a land deal.
Leland s attorney Steve Fishman waived a formal reading of the charge Tuesday and Leland stood mute. The court entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
The court set a probable cause hearing for April 5 and set a $10,000 personal bond.
