Detroit police officers responding to a call in an SUV collided with a sedan, killing local attorney and media personality Cliff Woodards on the city s west side Monday morning.
The officers were responding to a request for backup with sirens and emergency lights activated in a marked police SUV, traveling east on the Jeffries Service Drive when they collided with Woodards sedan traveling south on West Chicago at about 1 a.m., according to the Detroit Police Department.
The police officers were traveling at about 59 m.p.h. when exiting the freeway and did not see Woodard s vehicle, as the driving officer s vision was obstructed by a bridge, DPD Chief James Craig said.

The man was discovered about 7:50 a.m. Saturday at Detroit s city jail, 17601 Mound Road.
Michigan State Police will investigate the man s death. Lt. Mike Shaw, spokesman and commander for the state police in Metro Detroit, said police are awaiting the Wayne County Medical Examiner s Office report.
The medical examiner s office did not immediately respond to a request for information.
The corrections department says the man who died was arrested Thursday for drug possession.
The Michigan Department of Corrections runs the facility on a contract basis for the Detroit Police Department. The agreement dates back to August 2013.
