Karlene Rantamaki of Youngstown dies in 4-car crash in Wayne County

CHIPPEWA TWP.  A 34-year-old Youngstown woman died Tuesday afternoon in a four-vehicle accident on state Route 585. According to a news release from the Ohio Highway Patrol, Karlene D. Rantamaki was driving a Chevy Malibu south on Route 585 around 4 p.m., when she went left of center sideswiping two northbound vehicles, each driven by Akron residents. Rantamaki s car then slid sideways across the centerline, according to the patrol, and was struck on the right side by a Chevy Equinox driven by a Virginia man.  Rantamaki was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash closed Route 585 between state Route 94 and Eastern Road in Wayne County for about an hour while crews worked to clear the scene.

Woman killed in 4-vehicle Wayne County crash

CHIPPEWA TOWNSHIP – A Youngstown woman died Tuesday afternoon in a four-vehicle crash on State Route 585, north of State Route 94 in Chippewa Township, Wayne County.  Karlene D. Rantamaki, 34, was pronounced deceased at the scene and three others were transported to area hospitals, according to a press release from the Ohio Highway Patrol. An initial investigation revealed Rantamaki was driving southbound on SR-585 around 4 p.m. when she drove left of center, sideswiping two vehicles that were traveling northbound, the release said. Her vehicle then continued to slide sideways across the centerline and was struck on the right side by the fourth vehicle. 

Shreve man killed in Saturday morning Jeep crash

CLINTON TOWNSHIP A Shreve man was killed Saturday morning after his Jeep crashed on Ohio 3 just north of Funk Road in Wayne County. According to the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, James A. Patterson II, 48, was killed after his 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveled off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail before overturning several times shortly after 7 a.m. Patterson was not wearing a safety belt and was partially ejected. The Patrol stated impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash. State Route 3 was closed intermittently for approximately two hours. The crash remains under investigation.
