Where are our doses? : Whitmer frustrated by decreased vaccine supply
Lansing In an emotional plea Friday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer urged the White House to explain why Michigan and other states are receiving a fraction of the coronavirus vaccines they were promised.
Whitmer expressed her frustration after mourning the loss of Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon, who died Thursday of complications associated with COVID-19.
People like Napoleon are dying every day, Whitmer said, but answers from the Trump administration about vaccine availability are nonexistent. We have Michigan hospitals and nursing homes ready to administer this vaccine and the bottleneck appears to be the White House and I can’t get an answer why, she said.

Lansing, MI Stacie Clayton, Chair of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission has issued the following statement on the passing of Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon, on behalf of the Commission.
“I, along with so many, many people, went to sleep with a heavy heart and awakened feeling the same. The death of Benny Napoleon is a tremendous loss. He will always be a favorite son of Detroit who dedicated his adult life to unwavering service to its people. I had the pleasure to serve with him in the Archer Administration and continued to work with him in some capacity over the years. Benny s ability to greet everyone with that smile and make an immediate connection was genuine. Throughout his years in law enforcement, rising through the ranks to the top of the Detroit Police Department and then as Wayne County Sheriff, Benny maintained his humor, his humility, and his ability to touch the lives of the people who served with him, as well as the people they serve

Speaking at a news conference Friday afternoon, a visibly upset Whitmer says she doesn’t know why the state isn’t getting what s been promised.
“There are millions of Pfizer vaccines, many right here in Portage, Michigan that are waiting to be shipped. But the feds are slow-walking the process of getting the addresses to Pfizer for some reason I cannot get an answer to, she said. We have Michigan hospitals and nursing homes ready to administer this vaccine. And the bottleneck appears to be the White House and I can t get an answer why.”
