April JTIP funds to support 575 trainees

In April, New Mexico’s Job Training Incentive Program board approved $2.8 million to 15 companies to train a total of 575 employees in April, according to the state Economic Development Department. Companies that received at least $100,000 include the following, according to a news release from EDD: – Mass Market NM, which was awarded $883,640 to support 360 trainees in Las Cruces at an average wage of $14.01 per hour. – Torc Robotics, which was awarded $642,239.28 to support 30 trainees in Albuquerque at an average wage of $40. – Faneuil Inc., which was awarded $426,300 to support 125 trainees in Albuquerque at an average wage of $13.44. ...................... – BennuBio Inc., which was awarded $201,452 to support 10 trainees and one intern in Albuquerque. The intern will make $17.50 an hour, and the average trainee will make $36, according to the release.

There are lots of science, technology, engineering and math-related jobs available in New Mexico, but companies seeking potential employees need better ways to connect with STEM professionals. To help bridge the divide, the University of New Mexico’s Alumni Association and STEM Boomerang which works to hook up in-state and out-of-state STEM professionals with local employers will offer a STEM-focused career fair Thursday for UNM alumni, students approaching graduation, and their spouses and partners. The online event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature presentations by 17 companies looking for talented employees in the space, biotechnology and general technology industries in New Mexico.

State Assistance Helps Affordable Solar Expand in N M

   ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The State of New Mexico and the City of Albuquerque have pledged economic assistance, contingent upon approval by the Albuquerque City Council, so that Affordable Solar can double the size of its Albuquerque fabrication facility and corporate headquarters. Affordable Solar, established in New Mexico in 1998, offers large-scale solar and energy storage integration throughout the Western United States. The company has seen rapid growth with its technologies and plans to scale up business as state and national policies boost renewable energy and combat climate change. The project requires approval of the Albuquerque City Council. “Albuquerque is becoming an important hub for the alternative energy industry and supporting Affordable Solar means we can help the climate and grow good manufacturing jobs right here in New Mexico, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said.
