New Navy Fleet Commanders in Pacific, Middle East Nominated; New Picks for N9, Inspector General

The White House has put forward nominees to lead the Navy’s two fleets in the Pacific and the fleet in the Middle East, as well as the service’s chief requirements officer and inspector general, the Pentagon announced this week.
Vice Adm. Scott D. Conn
Vice Adm. Scott Conn, current commander of U.S. 3rd Fleet, was nominated to be deputy chief of naval operations for warfighting requirements and capabilities (OPNAV N9). The career fighter pilot has served as the head of 3rd Fleet since September of 2019. Prior to the command, Conn was the director of air warfare (N98). By WYATT OLSON | STARS AND STRIPES Published: April 15, 2021 A naval aviator with experience in Iraq spanning from Operation Desert Storm in 1990-91 to the more recent Inherent Resolve has been nominated to command the San Diego-based 3rd Fleet, the Defense Department announced Wednesday. If the Senate approves, Rear Adm. Stephen Koehler, currently the deputy commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet in Hawaii, will be promoted to vice admiral as commander of 3rd Fleet, which is responsible for about 50 million square miles of the eastern and northern Pacific Ocean.
NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY BAHRAIN
The aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), flagship of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group (IKE CSG), and guided-missile destroyer USS Mitscher (DDG 57) conducted a scheduled port visit in support of logistics and maintenance in Duqm, Oman, April 10-12.
While this was a working port visit, crew members had an opportunity to rest and unwind in a designated liberty area on the pier. These activities were planned and carried out in full compliance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Department of Defense (DOD) and host nation COVID-19 mitigation measures.

NORFOLK, Va. The state of American military readiness is at a critical juncture according to the Government Accountability Office.
In a new report, the GAO studied three years from 2017 through 2019 and concludes that two decades of continuous wars have taken a heavy toll.
The agency found that readiness improved for ground forces, as the U.S. wrapped up combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
But, the GAO found that for the Navy, readiness has decreased, because of the ongoing high operational tempo for ships.
