New Mexico Workforce Solutions Awaits Labor Department Guidance On Implementation Of CARES Act Extension
NMDWS News:
ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) is reviewing the CARES Act unemployment extension provisions contained in H.R. 133.
These provisions bring additional unemployment compensation to more than 160,000 New Mexicans.
“The Department of Workforce Solutions will work as hard as possible to get these extension and increases in place as soon as we receive necessary rules and funding from the U.S. Department of Labor,” NMDWS Cabinet Secretary Bill McCamley said. “We know how vital this money is to New Mexicans and will get it into people’s pockets as soon as possible so bills can get paid.”

So as Congress neared agreement on a $900 billion COVID-19 stimulus package Monday, workers like Sherman tried to soldier on as the deadline for action in Washington, D.C. â and Christmas â neared.
Sherman said she had more praise for the stateâs recent move to provide a $1,200 stimulus check than Congressâ plodding machinations.
âTo be honest, with it taking so long for Congress to pass another bill to extend unemployment benefits, I feel like I have learned not to expect the governmentâs help during this time and have tried to prepare financially as much as possible with the extra benefits,â Sherman said. âThe extra $300 a week [in the federal stimulus] is extremely helpful. It almost doubles what I make on unemployment, so it really makes a huge difference.â
