Socso Chief Executive Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said this extension, under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 and the Employees’ Insurance System Act 2017 (Act 800), will enable domestic workers who were not previously covered by social security coverage to now receive the same protection as workers in other sectors. He said domestic workers are individuals employed to manage related work for private residences.  ADVERTISEMENT Generally, he added, domestic work was considered a precarious profession exposed to mishaps due to employment conditions, including long working hours, inadequate social security protection and a wide job scope.

Bernama PUTRAJAYA: Victims of the Kelana Jaya Line Light Transit Rail (LRT) train crash on Monday are qualified to claim for benefits as stipulated under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) and the Self-Employment Social Security Act 2017 (Act 789). Human Resource Minister Datuk M Saravanan said the Human Resource Ministry, through the Social Security Organisation (Socso) is committed to process benefit claims from victims of the crash and to ensure all assistance is channeled immediately. “Under Act 4, Socso provides coverage to employees who suffer accidents while working or while travelling to and from work under the Employment Injury Scheme.

Domestic helpers to be covered under social security plan

KUALA LUMPUR: Local and foreign domestic helpers are set to benefit from the government’s expansion of social security protection, with approximately 100,000 workers in this segment slated to be covered. Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, who announced this, said the Cabinet has approved the proposal to expand the social security coverage to domestic helpers under the Employees Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) and Employment Insurance System Act 2017 (Act 800). “The government hopes to enforce this expansion through these regulations that is expected to be implemented on June 1, ” he told reporters before the start of the 2021 Socso Buka Puasa event here yesterday.
