Christine Taylor from Weymouth donates Christmas presents to care homes

A KIND-HEARTED former teacher co-ordinated an incredible community effort - donating more than 500 presents to care home residents who would otherwise had nothing to open on Christmas Day. Christine Taylor, who lives in Weymouth, was concerned there would be people living in care homes who would would not receive any visitors or presents this Christmas so she thought she would collect a few gifts to donate. She wrote a Facebook post telling her friends what she was doing and was inundated with messages of support as well as people offering to donate presents and help her package and deliver them.

Yearly Bridport Blue Light Carols event goes ahead virtually | Bridport and Lyme Regis News

A VIRTUAL carol service has been held to celebrate the hard work of the emergency services and voluntary sector this year. Traditionally the Blue Light Carol Service is held in St Mary s Church in Bridport around this time of year. Since this could not be arranged this year due to the pandemic, a virtual service was held instead. The service went ahead on Thursday, December 17 and allowed supporters to watch the celebration on Youtube. The virtual service was viewed by far more people than usual. Gary Hepburn of Wyke Regis Church gave up his time to compile the service with help from the Wyke Regis choir and a number of readers, all of which were welcomed at the start of the service by Dorset s Lord Lieutenant, Angus Campbell.

Love From Wyke launched to support Weymouth community

A TOUCHING community project is spreading Christmas cheer in a Weymouth community. Wyke Regis resident Becky Blake has launched a new initiative, called Love From Wyke , to support local businesses and give residents a way of saying a big thank you to local people who deserve a treat this festive season - or who may be in need of cheering up after a difficult year. Residents being invited to nominate individuals who they would like to receive a surprise gift while businesses are being called on to donate items to be awarded to those who are nominated. There has already been a strong show of support for the new scheme, Becky said, with many businesses having come forward to donate.
