The Hays County Commissioners Court will consider submitting two grant applications to the Office of the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division during its regular meeting Tuesday.
One grant up for submission is to the General Victim Assistance Program for the Hays County Victim Assistance for the Family Justice Center.
The grant amount of $54,868 will fund the Hays County Victim Assistance Coordinator position that will provide services and assistance directly to victims of crime to speed their recovery and help them through the criminal justice process.
The second application will be to renew the Mental Health Crisis Intervention grant.

The Hays County Commissioners Court recently proclaimed February as Black History Month in Hays County and many municipalities will follow suit in their upcoming city council meetings.
“This is the first time there has been a collaborative effort of the whole county to work together and put together this schedule of activities,” said Vanessa Westbrook, chair of the African American Heritage Committee of the Hays County Historical Commission. “Some of the activities have been going on for years. Some are new. The old and the new have met together to provide the citizens of Hays County with a great opportunity for discovery, exploration and learning about significant African Americans in Hays County.

The Hays County Commissioners Court will review a variety of contracts in preparation for future distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.
A shipment of 1,950 Pfizer vaccines arrived on Friday and vaccination appointments began on Monday.
The commissioners will vote to authorize the purchase of an ultra-cold freezer using $7K from a Department of State Health Services (DSHS) COVID-19 CoAg Grant to store COVID-19 vaccines.
They will also vote on executing a contract between the Hays County Health Department and Hill Country Med Waste for medical waste disposal related to the COVID-19 vaccine clinic.
The contract would provide the health department with medical waste pickup on an as needed basis. The department’s request for funding for this under the DSHS IMM/LOCAL COVID-19 Grant was approved.
The Hays County Commissioners Court granted permission to county staff to move forward with completing a U.S. Department of the Treasury grant application for rental assistance at its Jan. 12
