Following recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Texas Department of State Health Services asked all Texas COVID-19 vaccine providers Tuesday to pause administration of the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine.
The DSHS said the pause is recommended after six individuals reported blood clots between six and 13 days after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. These after effects appear to be extremely rare and are being further evaluated to ensure vaccine safety, the DSHS added. The Hays County Local Health Department reports 48 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 80 recoveries through April 13-14, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 17,648, total active cases to 524 and recoveries to 16,883. The county reports the total active cases in the past 21 days is 705.
San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have 219, 137 and 90 active cases, respectively.
According to Epidemiologist Eric Schneider, the total number of received negative tests in the county is now 150,857. The total number of hospitalizations is 814 and total current hospitalizations is 12 after four people were hospitalized and two were discharged.

The Hays County Local Health Department reports one new COVID-19-related fatality, a Buda woman in her 60s. There have been a total of 240 fatalities in the county.
The county also reported 89 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 through April 8-9 and 71 recoveries, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 17,447, total active cases to 432 and recoveries to 16,775. The county reports the total active cases in the past 21 days is 593.
San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have 169, 130 and 79 active cases, respectively.

San Marcans and Hays County residents continue to get vaccinated with nearly 38,000 people fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
As of Thursday, the DSHS reports that 64,966 Hays County residents have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, or 35.43% of eligible adults, while 37,853 have been fully vaccinated 20.64%. The DSHS estimates that Hays County has a population of 183,380 who are 16 years or older.
The DSHS states that 75.69% of Hays County residents 65 and older have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, while 55.57% of those in the same age group are fully vaccinated as of Thursday.
