The next schools chief will take over at a time when schools are in their second year of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, there s continued competition for limited state funding and there are ongoing struggles to close the achievement gap.

Only one of five city council races in Superior is facing a challenge this year after long-time Councilor Esther Dalbec decided not to seek another term. “I decided I’m giving it up this year,” Dalbec said. “I think I’ve reached the point at 87 that to get out in the middle of a snowstorm and having to use the telephone for meetings just isn’t the same.”
