Whitley County under red flag warning, all outdoor burning is prohibited

ORIGINAL STORY Due to current and predicted weather conditions and the extreme danger of forest fires in Whitley County, Whitley County Judge Executive Pat White, Jr. has issued an executive order to ban outdoor burning beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday. All outdoor burning in the county is prohibited, with the executive order. This prohibition is in effect until this executive order has been rescinded by public notice. The first reading of the lease was on Jan. 18. The ordinance establishes the financing of the property. The Happy Hollow Road property hosted the Whitley County Dumpster Days event in January. The fiscal court approved the purchase of the property during its Nov. 11 meeting. The 15 acres was purchased for $123,750 and approved for subsequent financing, which is what the ordinance establishes. During the Nov. 11 meeting, Whitley County Judge Executive Pat White said the county hopes to eventually make the property a permanent location for the county’s dumpster days program, which is usually held at different locations each month for three day periods.

Storms cause power outages, hazardous roads throughout Tri-County

Let’s face it. 2020 was quite the year from a worldwide pandemic to the third highest flood in Whitley County and Williamsburg history. Just in Whitley County alone, we were pretty much a war and a famine short of having our own Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse…LOL. Maybe 2020 wasn’t quite that bad, but it was a rough year folks. Of course, you just can’t fit all the news from one year into a top 10 list, so here are some other headlines that made news in 2020.

Whitley County community leaders were among the 41 individuals who received their first dose of the Moderna vaccine for COVID-19 Tuesday at the Whitley County Health Department. The health department received its first shipment of the Moderna vaccine on Monday. Whitley County Health Department Public Health Director Marcy Rein said the agency has partnered with different community agencies to help coordinate the vaccinations of other healthcare workers. Beginning at roughly 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the health department began administering the vaccines to a combination of first responders and health care providers in the community. Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison and Whitley County Judge-Executive Pat White Jr. both received their first doses Tuesday.
