Neil “Pops” “Papa” Hugh Brewer, 71, of Freeman Twp., passed away April 25, 2021 at home with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on June 27, 1949 a son of Carl “Bo” and Carrie Brewer in Boothbay Harbor. He attended school in Boothbay and became a commercial fisherman and a lobsterman after graduating high school. He worked many years on the boat side by side with his brothers and son, Keith. His heart was always on the water. He married Simone Cook on Nov. 6, 1971. In 1978 they moved to Freeman TWP on Cook Hill, where he lived the rest of his life. He was proud to live “on the mountain, always willing to show it off. He did various jobs and he always put his heart into everything he did.

AUBURN – Bruce Gordon McInnes, 85, of Farmington, died on April, 15, 2021, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn. Born on Feb. 18, 1936, in North Smithfield, R.I., to William and Beatrice (Ellis) McInnes, he spent his early life in Woonsocket. As a youngster, he was recruited for a prestigious position as a choirboy at New York City’s Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, an experience that would constitute the formation for a life of making music. Bruce graduated from Burrillville HS and Moses Brown School, after which he matriculated at Dartmouth College from which he received his bachelor’s degree majoring in music and romance languages. FARMINGTON – Raymond E. Shorey, 90, of Oquossoc, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Jan. 24, 2021. Ray was born April 30, 1930 in Hollis Center, the son of Carleton and Ruby Shorey. He was a 1949 graduate of Thornton Academy, where he boarded with the headmaster’s family for two years. In 1951 he met and married Elizabeth “Betty” Baade. In 1957, Ray and Betty settled in Scarborough where they raised their six children.
A firm believer in the value of hard work, Ray never willingly passed up a chance to earn an honest dollar. A member of Teamster Local 340, he drove a tractor-trailer for St. Johnsbury Trucking until his first “retirement” in 1985.
