Debuting back in mid-2017, the sixth-gen Polo has been on sale in international markets for a while now, though in India the older fifth-gen Polo continues to soldier on. Compared to its predecessor, the sixth-gen Polo is larger in size, packs in more tech and has moved from the old PQ25 to the MQB A0 platform.

But to have a fighting chance against its rivals, it has to deliver not just as a product but also on the overall cost of ownership. However, there is a long-standing perception that VW cars are relatively more expensive to own and maintain, and to counter this, Volkswagen is working on keeping maintenance costs low and enhancing ownership experience.

If their decade old Polo can still sell in decent numbers today, imagine what disruption can the next gen Polo make.
I am pretty sure, it can even surpass their entire SUV sales in India.Unfortunately it isn t that easy as it seems. Polo is based on MQB A0 Platform globally and it is greater than 4m in length so if VW launch it as it is bye bye to the tax and duty benefits and the Polo will be easily costing north of 12 Lakh to begin with. No mater how good a car is, if its a hatchback and is costing almost in the range of compact SUV it is not gonna do well in India.

Volkswagen Polo may have soldiered on in its current guise for over a decade in our market, however, the hatchback could be in for a major update. In an interview with Autocar India, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, confirmed that the company is mulling the prospect of a new Polo. “Those evaluations are on,” he said.
