Europe: Volkswagen Group Missed 2020 CO2 Fleet Target ++ Just around 0.5 g/km was missing, but it s enough to see a fine of more than €100 million. Volkswagen Group managed to decrease the average CO2 emissions of pits passenger car fleet in Europe (European Union, UK, Norway and Iceland) by 20% year-over-year, from 124 g/km in 2019 to 99.8 g/km in 2020. A Microchip Might Be Why the New Car You Want Is Hard to Locate

A Microchip Might Be Why the New Car You Want Is Hard to Locate Autoweek 1/18/2021 Colin Beresford © Rogelio V. Solis via AP The popularity of tech such as the PlayStation has slowed the flow of semiconductors to automakers. Now, manufacturers are having to cut back on production. Automakers are facing a supply shortage of semiconductors, the technology used to make microchips. In North America, Ford, FCA, Toyota, and Subaru have all had to adjust production schedules. The supply disruption could ultimately impact the availability of the affected vehicles . Even as automakers adapted to the restraints of a pandemic, the challenges faced by suppliers prevented a smooth return to production after the six-week shutdown in the spring. And although 2020 is now behind us, many of the challenges persist. Now a microchip shortage is forcing automakers to adjust production schedules and, in some cases, pause production once again.
