VCAS Microchipping Event This Sunday

Mar 17, 2021 11:35 AM Daytona Beach, FL - Volusia County Animal Services (VCAS) is holding its fourth free microchip event since June this Sunday, March 21. More than 900 pets were microchipped during the first three events. Director Adam Leath says the event takes place at VCAS headquarters, 1250 Indian Lake Road from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.  We will stay open as long as people are coming. So, if there s a need and they re here, we re going to make sure it happens. We typically get between three and 400 pets at these events. VCAS has been able to identify 35 percent of strays through microchipping identifications. Leath says that statistic is better for everyone.  Which is actually better than the national average. It s less than one percent for cats and twelve percent for dogs. The fact that we re able to reunite 35 percent is better for the pets, it s better for the owners, and it s better for the taxpayer. The dog survived the fall and landed on its feet. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A dog named Miracle that police say was thrown off a second-floor balcony at a Daytona Beach motel by his owner is starting a brand new life. Volusia County Animal Services posted an update on the adorable German Shepherd who survived the fall last year. A judge granted the county s custody petition to keep Miracle and not return him to his owner.
