VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Volusia County leaders held a news conference Wednesday afternoon to discuss their latest plans for distributing the COVID-19 vaccine to senior citizens.
Volusia County Council Chair Jeff Brower, Florida Department of Health in Volusia County Administrator Patricia Boswell and Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood spoke at the media event, which began at noon.

Earlier this week, 1,000 elderly residents camped out overnight at the Daytona Beach Stadium in frigid temperatures so they could receive their dose the next morning.
A carjacking suspect driving against traffic on a Florida freeway during a high-speed chase on Tuesday night crashed head-on into an SUV, killing two Wisconsin siblings, officials said.
A pair of siblings were killed earlier this week in Florida when an armed carjacking suspect fleeing police rammed into their vehicle, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports.
Domynick Milis, 21, and Danycka Milis, 18, were on their way home to Omro, Wisconsin, after taking in a Christmas lights display at the Daytona International Speedway on Tuesday.
Around 7 p.m. that evening, their vehicle was struck by a 47-year-old Orlando man who made an illegal U-turn on Interstate 95 near Daytona Beach.
The brother and sister were killed instantly, and the driver of the other vehicle, whose identity has not been released, also died.
Death has been a grim, constant marker of the ultimate impact of the the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
The casualty count is updated daily. Nationally, the death total that approached 334,000 as New Year s week began already dwarfed the casualties of such historic events as the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Pearl Harbor and the Vietnam War.
In Florida, the virus has accounted for the deaths of more than 21,300 Florida residents, a figure that doesn t include more than 300 non-resident deaths. In Volusia County, as of Monday, there have been 430 deaths. In Flagler County, there have been another 48.
Behind each of those numbers is a story.
