Town meeting roundup: Florio wins recount in Freedom

FREEDOM — While the COVID-19 pandemic made town voting day a bit different for towns that kept to their traditional schedule, residents who went to the polls in Freedom, Eaton, Ossipee and Wolfeboro cast some interesting ballots. In Freedom, incumbent selectman Alan Fall trailed the front-runner by five votes after tallies were announced on Tuesday night. “We did an instant recount immediately, while the counting crew was assembled,” said Town Clerk Libby Priebe. “Melissa Florio was declared the winner. Three candidates vied for the three-year selectman’s seat. Florio, a local business owner who vied unsuccessfully for a seat last year, took top honors with 223 votes, followed by Fall with 218, and Robert Rafferty, eight.

March 03, 2021WOLFEBORO Each of the six candidates running for the two open seats on the Board of Selectmen had the opportunity to make a pitch to the voters during the Wolfeboro Area Chamber of Commerce s Candidates Night held at the GWRSD s Kingswood Arts Center. It was broadcast live to those at home and may be viewed on Wolfeboro Community Television s You Tube channel. Luke Freudenberg has previously served a three term on the board and is seeking to return to the post. A graduate of Kingswood Regional High School and the University of New Hampshire, Freudenberg worked for FEMA in years past, and returned to Wolfeboro, where he is the owner of Northeast Dock and Barge.

Town warrant moves forward with amendments February 11, 2021WOLFEBORO The weather cooperated for attendance at Wolfeboro s Deliberative session on Tuesday evening, Feb. 2, but the number of voters was sparse despite the move of the meeting from the Great Hall to the Kingswood Arts Center to allow for adequate social distancing. Those able to attend the meeting in person were able to amend the warrant; voters will vote on the amended warrant, posted on the town website, on March 9. The meeting began at 7 p.m. and ended at 11:30. It was an informational evening as department heads presented details, complete with engineering designs and drawings and explanations of need for the numerous articles pertaining to infrastructure – electric department upgrades, public works projects, Pop Whalen Ice Arena repairs, support for library and police needs, all with description of funding sources and tax rate impacts.
