Two legislators are seeking a federal investigation into the Wauwatosa Police Department.
U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin and U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, D-4th District, are asking for the probe from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The request comes after the families of the three people who were shot and killed by former Wauwatosa Police Officer Joseph Mensah requested a federal civil rights investigation into the Police Department via a letter from the family s attorney. These Wisconsin families have put forward serious allegations of misconduct, including policing practices that allegedly targeted individuals because of their race and/or their engagement in activities protected by the First Amendment, said a letter from Baldwin and Moore.
Officer Mensah
The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office issued a decision Wednesday on whether Wauwatosa Police Officer Joseph Mensah will face criminal charges for the Feb. 2 fatal shooting of 17-year-old Alvin Cole.
There were no charges for Officer Mensah involved in a police shooting of a black teen in #Wauwatosa, Wisconsin in February after he shot at the officer.
Prosecutor Chisholm said, “I do not believe that the State could disprove self-defense or defense of others in this case and therefore could not meet the burden required to charge Officer Mensah.”
UPDATE: No charges will be filed against suspended Wauwatosa police officer, Joseph Mensah in the shooting death of #AlvinCole. @fox6nowhttps://t.co/d4yDgWAvSN
