A section of the Shorpshire Union Canal, close to Bennetts Bridge in Audlem, has been blocked after a culvert collapsed.
The collapse of the culvert, a small tunnel that carries water under a road or railway, has meant the Canal and River Trust has had to install a temporary dam to allow work to be carried out to repair the it, meaning narrowboats can not travel along the waterway.
The land where the homes would have been built. Image: Google Maps A DEVELOPER who tried to argue there were not enough new houses being built in Middlewich has seen his plans for new homes turned down. Dominic Devaney submitted plans for three self-build homes on land to the west of Nantwich Road and south of the Shropshire Union Canal, near the aqueduct. Russell Adams, the agent acting on behalf of Mr Devaney, argued there was a pressing need to provide smaller sites for housing development in Middlewich in order to meet Cheshire East Council s housebuilding targets. CEC s local plan has Middlewich ringfenced for 1,950 new homes between 2010 and 2030, but Mr Adams claimed there would be a shortfall of around 300 homes because of the council s over-reliance on large strategic sites , such as Glebe Farm.
Izzy Gibbins with her awards after finishing fifth in the national championship IZZY Gibbins is an example of a youngster who has overcome her fishing nerves and is now looking forward to building on her early success in matches. The 14-year-old St Gregory’s High School student from Bewsey admits she did not like handling ‘wriggly maggots and the slimy fish’ even at the point that she started having little competitions with her dad, Chris, less than 12 months ago. But in a year as difficult as 2020 was due to coronavirus, Izzy’s positive experiences mounted to her finishing the top-placed girl and overall fifth in a national competition.
A FAMILY of Gypsies is bidding to settle permanently on agricultural land between Middlewich and Winsford. The Boswells, an extended family of some 22 people, submitted a planning application to Cheshire West and Chester Council at the end of last month. The land in question is a two-hectare area to the east of Coalpit Lane, in Stanthorne on the south side of the Shropshire Union Canal. The application gives several reasons for applicants Mr Clonus Boswell, Ms V Boswell, Ms C Smith and their family wanting to settle, such as one family member’s ill health and the precarity of their current lifestyle.
