Man stabs 7-month pregnant lover to death after accusing her of cheating

Johannesburg - A seven-month pregnant woman is dead after allegedly being stabbed by her boyfriend who accused her of cheating on him.
Her 34-year-old boyfriend walked with her to a nearby clinic after the stabbing but neither she nor her baby made it.
The alleged murderer was expected to appear at the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrateâs Court after being arrested and charged with her murder.
According to North West police spokesperson Colonel Amanda Funani, the man is originally from Taung.
On Saturday, Funani said, the man decided to visit his girlfriend who still lives with her parents at Extension 8, Ipelegeng Location, Schweizer-Reneke.

A woman who was seven months pregnant has died after being stabbed by her boyfriend during an argument outside her mother’s house in the North West.
The 34-year-old man was arrested after the incident on Saturday and is due to appear soon in the Schweizer-Reneke magistrate’s court.
“The suspect who is from Taung was visiting the victim at extension 8, Ipelegeng Location. It is alleged the suspect and his seven-month pregnant girlfriend had an argument. The suspect was allegedly accusing the girlfriend of cheating when he is not around,” said police spokesperson Lt-Col Amanda Funani.

Forum 4 Service Delivery in the North West is ready for the 2021 national elections.
It held its provincial Imbizo at Manzini Game Farm outside Potchefstroom yesterday, 18 December.
The gathering focused on the election of new provincial and regional leaders.
Abiding by the Covid-19 regulations, only 131 delegates were allowed to be part of the gathering.
Party leader Mbahare Kekana said it was important for the imbizo to take place so as to set a path for the elections next year.

Phomolang Madito, a first year student, used her student allowance to embark on a drive to buy sanitary towels for girls in her rural community in Schweizer-Reneke in the North West.
Madito, 21, a heritage studies student at Sol Plaatje University, told Sowetan that she started with her sanitary towel initiative in April, using some of the money she received from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

We don’t need more reports about oppression, we need action

The committee tasked to co-ordinate South Africa’s responses to gender-based violence and femicide, which was disbanded in April 2019, has still not been convened.
In recent years, educational institutions have been sites for public struggle against racism, sexual and gender-based violence and other forms of oppression. These struggles have played out at every level from primary to tertiary education, and across the country indiscriminately. We have seen this play out at Brackenfell High, but similar struggles have been part of our landscape as far back as the transition to democracy in South Africa. In unpacking this history, we can begin to understand the intractable nature of oppression in education, and to propose new ways we can deal with or resolve racism and sexual and gender-based violence, among other forms of oppression.
