UAE: Start-up for drone missions wins $100k award

A start-up that has built a drone infrastructure aiming to connect cities and countries won the $100,000 Sharjah Advanced Industry Accelerator (SAIA) award.
The Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park) presented the award to the New York-founded company Electric Visionary Aircrafts (EVA), which bested more than 550 applications from 50 countries. Other finalists will get value-added services worth $50,000 to scale up their solutions in the UAE market.
EVA is an enabler for drone-applications and is working on connecting cities and countries through the creation of a network of drone control and charging stations.

German investors received a crash course in the investment opportunities abounding in Sharjah’s emerging industries at a high-profile business webinar organised by the Sharjah FDI Office (Invest in Sharjah), which operates under the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq).
Highlighting Sharjah’s advantages in providing an impressive growth and expansion platform for German companies in a wide range of sectors, the webinar hosted a number of German businessmen and entrepreneurs who were introduced to the fast-growing business opportunities in the key emerging sectors of E-commerce, Health-tech, Edu-tech, Cybersecurity, Fintech, Smart Logistics, Industry 4.0, Artificial Intelligence and Cleantech, among many others.
Dubai: Aside from the UAE’s Hope Probe, two more Mars missions are expected to rendezvous with the Red Planet this month.
Hope Probe, the first Arab interplanetary mission, will be the first to reach Mars on February 9 at 7.42pm (UAE time), to be followed by China’s Tianwen-1 dual orbiter-rover on February 10, while Perseverance rover by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) will make a landing attempt in an area on Mars on February 18.
All three Mars missions were launched in July last year and each has its own mission to explore the Red Planet. Omran Sharaf Project Director Emirates Mars Mission, during the first media briefing with the Probe’s team at MBRSC in Dubai on February 2.

Agreement to enhance financing and boost innovation of technology-driven enterprises operating at Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park
The Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Emirates Development Bank to support innovative small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) in the UAE.
The MoU is to represent the Mohammed Bin Rashid Innovation Fund (MBRIF), the operator of MBRIF programmes, to enhance financing of SMEs operating in various fields of technological solutions, Artificial Intelligence, and innovation.
The MoU was signed by Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTI Park, and Faisal Al Bastaki, CEO of Emirates Development Bank, in the presence of MBRIF Director Shaker Farid Zainal and a number of senior officials from both sides.
