Economic development indicators in Sharjah achieve remarkable growth in January-March 2021 quarter: SEDD
The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) announced that the economic development indicators in Sharjah achieved a remarkable growth in the first quarter of 2021.
The number of issued and renewed licences during this period reached 15,920 compared to 14,267 during the same period in 2020, a rise of 12 per cent, it added.
The department’s first-quarter report also confirmed the ongoing growth in the total number of licences, rising by 29 per cent compared to the same period in 2019 while revealing that e-commerce licences topped the list, rising by 292 per cent compared to the same period last year. Industrial licences came next, with an increase of 19 per cent, followed by commercial licences with 13 per cent.

FTA, SEDD hold tax workshop for industrial investors

This workshop dealt with the country’s legislation and tax procedures, with the aim of overcoming obstacles that investors may face to provide support to companies and factories operating in the emirate. Also, it highlighted procedures related to value added taxes, as well as FTA’s role in administering and collecting federal taxes, based on the best standards to encourage and support taxpayers to comply with tax regulations.
Sharjah: The crime rate in Sharjah’s industrial areas fell 70 per cent during January of this year, according to Sharjah Police. The decrease follows ramped-up efforts to fight crime, a senior Sharjah Police officer said.
Colonel Yousef Obaid bin Harmoul, Director of the Comprehensive Police Centres Department, told Gulf News in exclusive interview that there is a noticeable decline in criminal cases in industrial areas, and crimes decreased by 70 per cent during the period January 1 until January 31.
Sharjah Police also achieved 100 per cent success in arresting culprits involved in crimes. Police attributed the lower crime rate to a new mechanism that involves tracking movements of suspects who were previously involved in criminal activities.

Khor Fakkan authorities also issue warnings to establishments during inspection
The Khor Fakkan City Municipality has issued fines on six establishments for violating Covid-19 safety regulations, an official has said.
The businesses included gents’ salons, restaurants and public kitchens.
According to the official, municipality inspectors visited 20 establishments in the city. Multiple establishments also received warnings for exposing their customers to the risk of contracting the deadly virus.
The official also confirmed that the municipality would continue to carry out such inspections to ensure that all businesses operating in the city are doing so in compliance with the Covid safety protocols set in place to limit the spread of the virus.
