Sohaila Ahmed,
The Sharjah Police’s Criminal Investigation Department has successfully arrested a three-member gang of robbers, Arab nationals, headed by a leader who lives outside UAE.
The gang carried out various robberies using the same modus operandi, as they used to lure victims by offering to sell them vehicles, then stealing their money after making the deals.
Police learned about the gang’s criminal activities after receiving two separate robbery reports that were carried out in the same modus operand.
One of the victims testified that he had made a vehicle purchase deal with a man living abroad, who later told him to hand the money to a man he knows inside UAE.
Witnessing such a major achievement, Colonel Omer Ahmed Abul Zoud, Director of the CID, confirmed that police teams are always ready to tackle cyber criminals who prey on victims through bank and credit card scams.
“Awareness campaigns are regularly being carried out by the department in order to open people’s eyes to the vicious tricks that cyber criminals use to commit robberies or blackmailing,” Col. Abul Zoud added.
Police officials advise people to report if they have witnessed blackmailing or hacked account crimes through the e-mail tech crimes@shjpolice.gove.ae, or by dialling the landline number 065943228, and WhastApp on 0559992158.
