Advocacy groups file suit over new Kansas voting laws, arguing they are needlessly oppressive Andrew Bahl, Topeka Capital-Journal © Evert Nelson/The Capital-Journal Registered Shawnee County voters fill out their advance ballots Friday morning at the county election office at 3420 S.W. Van Buren. That office will be closed to the public Saturday and Sunday. Registered voters will then be able to vote in advance there from 8 a.m. to noon Monday. A coalition of advocacy groups have filed suit in opposition to two laws approved by the legislature last month, arguing they violate the Kansas Constitution by making it harder for residents to vote and infringing on their free speech rights.
