Accused on remand dies in Uttara East Police Station

Deceased Liton (40) was on a two-day remand in a case filed by Rapid Action Battalion under the Narcotics Control Act. Saiful Islam, deputy commissioner of Uttara Division Police, said that Liton was a drug addict and hanged himself with part of his blanket in the lock-up. There is a CCTV camera in the lock-up. We formed a three-member committee led by an additional deputy commissioner to investigate the incident, the deputy commissioner said.

Driver stabbed to death by muggers in Tongi Star Digital Report Star Digital Report A private car driver was stabbed to death, allegedly by a gang of muggers, in Gazipur s Tongi area last night. The victim was identified as Jahidul Islam, 35, who used to drive the car of a garment factory in the district. The murder happened around 11:30pm on Monday when Jahid was heading towards the factory in Gazipur after dropping an official in Dhaka s Mirpur area, victim s brother Saiful Islam said. As Jahid stopped the car near Millgate area in Tongi to relieve himself, a group of four to five miscreants intercepted and tried to mug him. As he protested, they stabbed him in the head, chest and other parts of the body, he said quoting witnesses.
