A woman was detained by police from Dhaka s Wari area this morning for allegedly stabbing a man to death and dismembering the body.
The deceased was identified as Sajib Hasan (35), hailing from Jhenaidah.
Police detained Shahnaz Parveen after the murder, Hannaul Islam, assistant commissioner of Wari Zone Police, told The Daily Star.
Quoting Parveen, the AC said Sajib had an affair with her for a couple of years. He recently rented a flat on RK Mission Road for them.
The woman told police that an argument happened between her and Sajib this morning. As Sajib tried to attack her with a knife, she seized it and stabbed him back leaving him dead, the AC said. Once Sajib was dead, the woman dismembered the body, the police official quoted Parveen.
A police team reached the building around 12:30pm yesterday and found Shahnaz in an apartment.
She was talking to the police while standing at the door as the officers told her that her husband filed a diary mentioning that she was missing for the last three days. Then a policeman noticed that there were pieces of a dead body by the side of a bed in the living room.
Police found that the body was cut in five pieces.
Shahnaz told the cops that the body was of Sajib Hasan, 35, a transport worker, and that she had killed him that morning.
