Martyn Waghorn ended his goal drought as Town beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Hillsborough to extend Mick McCarthy’s remarkable record of never losing at Hillsborough in his 26 years as a manager. Waghorn, who had gone 15 games without a goal prior to the match, turned home Callum Connolly’s header in the 51st minute then, after Wednesday sub Lucas Joao had equalised on 69, netted a superb freekick seven minutes from time to seal back-to-back away wins for the Blues, who are now unbeaten in their last nine at Hillsborough.

Skipper Jon Walters has apologised to fans for the 3-1 defeat at Peterborough United on Tuesday. The 26-year-old admitted that the performance was nowhere near good enough.
Walters said: “I need to apologise to our fans on behalf of the players. They gave us great support as usual on Tuesday and we let them down.
“Speaking as player spokesman, we ll be doing everything in our power to put things right.
“We ve got the capacity in our side to do well but the table doesn t lie and we re only got ourselves to blame.
Manager McCarthy Only Doubt for Boro s Visit

Boss Mick McCarthy has emerged as the only doubt ahead of Saturday’s game against Middlesbrough at Portman Road. The Blues manager has missed most of the week due to a bug with his assistant Terry Connor taking today’s pre-match press conference.
Connor explained: “He came in on Tuesday, he wasn’t great on Monday, but he felt worse on Tuesday and hasn’t reported for work since.
“Today, he was desperate to come in but still didn’t feel able to come in, so he’s hoping that all the drugs and everything kick in by tomorrow and he’s able to do his stuff on a matchday.”
