SHEBOYGAN - Two horses are recovering at the Amazing Grace Equine Sanctuary after a complaint about their condition led to the Sheriff s Department seizing them from their owner.
The horses, Curly and Princess, came to the sanctuary in late January, where volunteers have been working with them to gain weight and muscle. They re feeling better, even though they don t look as well as they should, said Shannon Madden, who volunteers with the sanctuary.
Madden said part of the challenge for the horses is that their teeth need work done but they aren t well enough to be put under anesthesia for it. That leaves a vicious cycle of waiting for them to gain enough weight to have the work done, but it s more difficult for them to eat without it.
