Dual, concurrent enrollment courses open doors – Sheridan Media

Dual and concurrent courses are opening doors for high school students in Sheridan County School District 2. Mitch Craft, an assistant superintendent with the district, explained the benefits of the courses in a joint meeting of trustees with the school district and the Northern Wyoming Community College District Monday night. Craft said in the 2019-20 school year, 95 juniors and seniors at Sheridan High School and John C. Schiffer Collaborative School earned 550 college credits in dual enrollment, and over 319 students earned over 1,600 credits in concurrent enrollment. He said numbers for this year are projected, because the year isn’t yet complete, but so far there are just over 90 students in dual enrollment and just over 290 in concurrent.

TRMS students hope to break ground this spring on veterans memorial – Sheridan Media

(Mockup of memorial by Arete; courtesy drawing) Students of Tongue River Middle School hope to break ground this spring on a veterans memorial to be built on land between the school and the highway in Ranchester. Six Tongue River Middle School students presented an update on the project at a meeting this week of Sheridan County School District 1 trustees. School District 1 operates the schools in Ranchester, Dayton and Big Horn. The school district’s Superintendent Pete Kilbride said the students are raising money to pay for the memorial. Kilbride said the students plan to have a website established within the next week. He said they have also created brochures and are creating YouTube thank-you videos to veterans.

School District 2 hosts parent-teacher conferences – Sheridan Media

Sheridan County School District 2 will host parent-teacher meetings next week. According to a release from the district, conferences will be on the nights of Feb. 17 and 18 – Wednesday and Thursday – with early dismissal on Feb. 18 and no school on Feb. 19. According to the release, Story Elementary School and the elementary schools in Sheridan will be dismissed at 12:35 p.m. Feb. 18. Sheridan Junior High School, the Wright Place and John C. Schiffer Collaborative School will be dismissed at 1:10 p.m. on that day, and Sheridan High School will be dismissed at 1:15 p.m. All schools will resume classes on Monday, Feb. 22.

SCSD 1 provides virtual learning to students – Sheridan Media

While Sheridan County School District 2 is looking at the possibility of offering online instruction, one school district in Sheridan County already provides virtual learning. Sheridan County School District 1 operates the brick-and-mortar schools in Big Horn, Ranchester and Dayton. But the district also provides online learning to students statewide through the Cowboy State Academy. Pete Kilbride, who’s superintendent of School District 1, said just over 50 of the district’s students opted to continue online learning rather than return to classes when the schools reopened this past fall, and the issue came up during a work session of the district’s trustees earlier this week.
