A BORDERS man is taking potentially historic legal action after being cleared of making a threatening video relating to the Alex Salmond trial. Mark Hirst, 51, is accusing the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service of bringing a malicious prosecution against him. The former STV journalist says he has raised more than £12,200 this week through a crowd-funder campaign to cover his legal costs.

Danny Sharkey, 27, of Anderson Place, Hawick, was found guilty after a trial recently of stalking and engaging in a course of conduct which caused fear or alarm to his former partner. Sentence had been deferred for the production of background reports but Sheriff Peter Paterson said they did not make good reading. He was critical of Sharkey s comments that Sharkey was still in denial of the offence and that women had an easier time from the authorities than men.
The argument spilled outside and he kept saying he wanted to see the messages. Mr Matheson said the argument continued back in the house with Millen appearing in a room carrying a knife which had his own blood on it. At this point his partner phoned 999 and she tried to leave but as she tried to get into a vehicle Millen tried to prevent her from getting in. When police attended shortly thereafter they found Millen in possession of cannabis which was valued at £295. Millen also pleaded guilty to a charge of stalking involving a previous partner. The court heard he had been in a relationship with the woman for about a year and it had come to an end in September 2019.
