Shaler residents will pay the same in property taxes to the township in 2021 after commissioners approved its $14.5 million budget. The plan maintains a real estate tax rate of 3.49 mills. The owner of a home assessed at $100,000 will again pay $349 to the township. Residents also pay 23.5 mills to the Shaler Area School District, which is $2,350 on a $100,000 home.

ELLWOOD CITY – Wes Shipley is no longer interim superintendent for the Ellwood City Area School District. The school board voted 7-2 at a special virtual meeting Friday night to hire Shipley to a five-year contract as the permanent superintendent. Board members Erica Gray and Jennifer Tomon voted against the move. According to the board, Shipley will earn an annual salary of about $150,000 per year and will not use district health insurance. Tomon said his total compensation still would average about $212,000 per year.
