According to the Sumpter Township Police Department, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has identified the township area as being at very high risk of wildfires due to dry ground conditions. Residents are being asked to avoid any outdoor burning activities to prevent a wildland fire.

Police and fire/rescue were dispatched shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 20 to Willis Road near Sharon Court in Sumpter Township, roughly 10 miles southeast of Ypsilanti, for a vehicle that’d reportedly hit a tree. An initial investigation has revealed a truck with four occupants aboard was headed east on Willis Road, per a statement from the Sumpter Township Police Department.
