THE 22-year-old now says he wants to study law to protect others vulnerable to kidnapping and torture.
Tawanda Muchehiwa has spent the last few months living in the shadows in a large African city.
He rarely goes outside and when he does, he says he is prone to panic attacks and bouts of body-shredding paranoia.
“Some days I feel I am ok, then the other day (I am) breaking down. I am shaking you know; it is like a rollercoaster. It’s ups and downs. I am so traumatised, I think I can say,” he says.
The 22-year old university student was utterly unprepared for the moment at the end of July when he was abducted by 15 to 20 men.

Justice Benjamin Chikowero made the ruling, coincidentally on International Day Against Corruption, marking Zimbabwe’s first-ever asset forfeiture in terms of the Unexplained Wealth Order provisions of the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crimes Amendment Act.
“This is an application for a civil forfeiture order brought in terms of section 80 of the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act (Chapter 9:24),” Justice Chikowero said.
