JOHANNESBURG (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 04th March, 2021) An umbrella group of Christian churches in southern Africa has sounded the alarm over a humanitarian crisis unfolding in the north of Mozambique, where a quarter of the population has been displaced by what the UN calls a perfect storm of fighting and natural disasters.
The Fellowship of Christian Councils in Southern Africa met by video this week to discuss the situation on Mozambique s Cabo Delgado, a resources-rich region that has been under siege by Islamist insurgents since 2017. The UN estimates that over 530,000 people have been displaced by December, many of them in the past few months. More than 1,300 civilians have been killed.

AS THE push for Zimbabwe’s much-needed national dialogue continues to gather steam, the opposition said yesterday that it was important for Sadc and the African Union to help midwife the mooted talks.
Speaking to the Daily News, both the main opposition MDC and the MDC Alliance also re-affirmed their unequivocal commitment to genuine and inclusive national talks, in the interest of the country and its long-suffering citizens.
This comes as the church has also stepped up its efforts to unite Zimbabwe – culminating in it recently presenting the country’s major political players and other key stakeholders with a draft national talks framework.

Churches hail Govt, urge vaccine acceptance

Churches have hailed the Government’s efforts in taming the impact of Covid-19 following the arrival this week of the first batch of the vaccines from China, urging citizens to embrace the doses.
Led by the Roman Catholic Church, the Zion Christian Church and other denominations, churches took turns to implore the nation to get inoculated against the virus threatening populations and health services across the globe.
The Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference secretary general, Father Frederick Chiromba, said the Government’s efforts to secure the vaccines are timely.
“The church recommends vaccines for all for a fairer and healthier world. Covid-19 vaccines must be made available and accessible to all. The church is at the service of healing the world.
