April 30, 2021 Share Human rights groups in Zimbabwe say the government has frequently violated people’s basic rights since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The groups presented their findings at a partially virtual meeting with officials in the capital Thursday. At the meeting, rights groups presented a report they call “The Impact of COVID-19 on Socio-Economic Rights.” The report chronicles how Zimbabwe’s government has violated human rights since COVID-19 lockdowns started in March 2020. Calvin Fambirai, executive director of Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights, was one of the speakers. He said the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the gap in medical care between the haves and have-nots in the country.

The recovery rate is 93 percent, with 34 722 cases attributed to local transmission. By Anna Chibamu CABINET on Tuesday approved two bills which were presented by Justice minister and chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Legislation Ziyambi Ziyambi. Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa announced the approval of the bills during a post-cabinet briefing later in the day. The Health Services Board will now be replaced by an independent commission, the Health Services Commission. “The Health Services Bill is meant to designate the health service as an essential service in line with Section 65(3) of the Constitution and will substitute the Health Services Board with the Health Services Commission. “The Commission will comprise of a chairperson who must be the chairman of the Civil Service Commission, a deputy chairperson and a minimum of two and maximum of five other members appointed by the President,” read part of the statement.
