As businesses continue to reopen, some female food and beverage industry owners say they are facing another unexpected hurdle towards normalcy: hiring.As Findlay Market prepares to for Memorial Day weekend crowds, some vendors tell us they are struggling to keep up with customer demands due to staffing needs.Melissa Gilmore owns Em s Breads and has held at Findlay Market for six years. During the height of the pandemic, she had to lay off seven of its 11 employees and close Em s second location. Now with most employees back to work and customers pouring in again, Gilmore said her staff is barely keeping up. Em s currently has three openings: one baker and two sandwich makers. Gilmore says the positions offer either $11 or $12 dollars per hour, tips and a flexible schedule. Gilmore estimated 80 percent of applicants offered an interview don t show up.
