Duque: Healthcare systems in safe zone

SunStar SunStar File February 26, 2021 DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III on Wednesday night, February 24, 2021, said healthcare systems in all regions were still generally in the safe zone as only about half of the facilities designated for the pandemic were in use. However, Duque said Baguio City was considered a high risk while Lapu-Lapu City (Cebu), Santiago City (Isabela), Makati City, and the provinces of Davao de Oro and Isabela were classified as moderate risk. Among the regions, Central Visayas and Davao had the highest health care utilization rates (HCUR) of 48 percent and 47 percent, respectively. The HCUR, which refers to the proportion of beds and ventilators being used by coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients, is the parameter used by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases in the escalation of risk classifications.

SunStar + February 20, 2021 ISOLATION centers for those with Covid-19 serve a purpose in controlling the spread of the virus and preventing hospitals and medical staff from getting overwhelmed by a rise in the number of patients. Department of Health (DOH) numbers have shown that about 80 percent of those who have the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) have either mild symptoms or none at all. They do not need to be hospitalized but some may not be able to isolate themselves at home, putting household members at risk of infection. The World Health Organization (WHO) early on during the pandemic pushed for governments to set up isolation shelters or community isolation centers for those with Covid-19 but who are not at increased risk for severe disease.

PhilHealth 7 lists 26 accredited Q facilities in Cebu

SunStar + February 14, 2021 CEBU has 26 community isolation units (CIUs), which are Department of Health (DOH)-certified public or private non-hospital facilities that serve as quarantine facilities for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients. These CIUs are also accredited by PhilHealth and are eligible to provide PhilHealth’s Covid-19 Community Isolation Benefit Package (CCIBP) to Covid-19 cases. Dina Cinchez, PhilHealth 7 public relations officer, said these CIUs are the International Eucharistic Congress Convention Center of Cebu Covid-19 Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility (TTMF), which is run by the DOH 7 and supported by the Bayanihan Cebu PH (a private-led organization); the Central Visayas Center for Health Development (CVCHD) Covid-19 Center; DOH-CVCHD/St. Mark’s Isolation Center; Cebu City Quarantine Center; and Centcom Emergency Quarantine Facility in Barangay Apas, Cebu City.

Cebu City EOC adds more personnel, resources for faster extraction of Covid cases

SunStar Contributed photo February 13, 2021 THE Cebu City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) added more personnel and resources for its extraction efforts to meet the rising number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases. Harold Alcontin, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) operations head and in-charge of extraction team, said personnel and ambulances from CDRRMO helped fast-track efforts of the EOC extraction team. CDRRMO head Ramil Ayuman added 20 personnel for the extraction team. Ten more barangay isolation centers with 762-bed capacity have also been opened to accommodate new cases. The additional resources have helped the Cebu City EOC address the spike in coronavirus disease cases.
