The benchmark indices were trading with modest gains in early afternoon trade. At 12:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, rose 343.03 points or 0.70% at 49,549.50. The Nifty 50 index gained 118.50 points or 0.80% at 14,941.65.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index added 0.82% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index rose 1.06%.
The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 2,011 shares rose and 936 shares fell. A total of 197 shares were unchanged.
Coronavirus Update:
Total COVID-19 confirmed cases worldwide stood at 15,83,34,639 with 32,93,120 deaths. India reported 37,45,237 active cases of COVID-19 infection and 2,46,116 deaths while 1,86,71,222 patients have been discharged, according to the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

Salman Khan says will release Radhe in theatres when COVID-19 pandemic ends
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan on Monday said after the coronavirus pandemic subsides in the country and it is safe for people to visit cinema halls, his film Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai go ahead with a theatrical release. Directed by Prabhudheva, the movie will start streaming on multiple platforms, including OTT and DTH services, on May 13 on the festival of Eid. Also starring Disha Patani, Randeep Hooda and Jackie Shroff, Radhe will release on the pay-per-view broadcast platform Zee Plex as well.
Salman Khan said the original thought was to bring the film to the halls as many of them were getting shut down .

Salman Khan’s Radhe join hands with NGO GiveIndia Foundation to support COVID-19 relief work using the film’s revenue
Production houses,
Zee Entertainment Enterprises and Salman Khan Films, on Wednesday pledged to provide support towards COVID-19 relief work across the country through the revenue generated from their upcoming film Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai.
Headlined by Salman Khan, the film will have a theatrical release on May 13 and will simultaneously stream on multiple platforms, including
OTT and DTH services.
The Prabhudheva-directed movie will also release on payper-view broadcast platform Zee Plex. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd and Salman Khan Films have partnered with donation platform GiveIndia for providing the relief aid, which also includes donation of essential medical equipment ranging from oxygen cylinders, concentrators and ventilators.
Benchmark indices further pared gains in early afternoon trade. The Nifty gave up 14,800 mark. Metal, media and pharma stocks saw buying while PSU bank shares were under pressure.
Global stock market advanced as investors welcomed a strong jobs report from the United States that reinforced optimism that the world s top economy is well on the recovery track. The White House s support for a global waiver on patent protections for Covid-19 vaccines also cheered investors.
At 12:29 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, added 183.94 points or 0.38% at 49,138.73. The Nifty 50 index was up 61.52 points or 0.42% at 14,786.05.
In broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.01% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index was gained 0.31%.
